RE-IMAGINING LIVENESS
In September 2020 we collaborated with Esther M Siddique and João Maio to curate a series of live talks and discussions of the theme of ‘Re-Imagining Liveness’. We brought together a group of artists and created a space for conversation. We discussed, provoked, innovated and created - responding to the question; how do we continue to create, cultivate, curate and experience liveness in these times? The project included two curated talks by US based artist scholar Rebecca Schneider and UK based dance artist Zinzi Minott.
The project was part rejection, part refusal and part call to action. We recognized that digital possibilities are a source of innovation, joy and knowledge - a powerful connecting force in such uncertain times. We recognised it was not the time for going backwards, but an opportunity for utopian thinking, and in reimagining liveness we wanted to also reimagine the structures it exists within - rebuilding, questioning and challenging what the arts is for, who gets to engage with it and how.
